It was after I had moved to Kings Mountain that I started to create mixed media collages.....and my first collage was Fallen Leaf.
Living on Kings Mountain exposes me to the ever-changing scenes of nature, mild springs, a hot summer with welcomed brief intermezzos of cooling fog, lovely mild autumns, wet winters with the rare encounter with snow. Living with nature allows me to see many pictures, not just the manicured lawns of suburban America but also the endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth. I have realized that life is beautiful not just in the beginning but also at the very end. Seldom have I seen as much beauty as in a fallen leaf. The vibrant colors, the dark spots, signs that the end of life is near, seem to call out "I am not done yet". Once I began to see, I discovered interesting patterns, structures, texture in everything, much like the person laying in a summer meadow watching the clouds floating by. My collages are an attempt to share these discoveries with a greater audience.
